Elf Mineral Eye Shadows: Review and Swatches!

A while ago, I discovered a little gem in my favorite Target (there are multiple ones equidistant from me!): a beauty clearance section. It was only one small shelf, but I still couldn't help but divulge. I found a set from Elf including two of their mineral shadows and an eye shadow brush. It was only on clearance for about 70 cents less, but Elf is so affordable (it retailed for $5 originally) that I would have bought it at full price.

The set came with two different colors: Elegant and Celebrity. I had heard some people raving about the color of Elegant, so I was super excited when I saw that this kit included it! The shadows are also housed in special white casing because they were part of a limited edition set, so the ones available now have black lids. The rest of the packaging is standard for loose shadows: round and plastic, with a sifter that helps block all the pigment from falling everywhere. But, of course with all loose powers, they are a messy thing to use.

Elegant, Celebrity

First off, Elegant. My God. It's one of my favorite, if not my favorite, eye shadow colors in my collection. It is so gorgeous. It's a light, buttery cream color with the most amazing iridescent shimmer to it. When I want something to really make my tear-duct bright, this is the first thing I reach for. It really steals the show for me. The other color, Celebrity, is a really lovely medium brown with a slight shimmer followed with a more bold silver glitter. While I really love the color and use it, next to Elegant, it gets overshadowed (no pun intended!)

My method for using loose mineral products is to swirl the brush into the cap, which definitely helps keep the picked-up product to a minimum. For the swatches, I used the product from the cap, and unfortunately they didn't come out exactly as planned. Luckily you can still see how pretty the colors are. I haven't tested out too many loose pigments, as I find them unnecessarily messy and I hate cleaning up when I can avoid it (my mother can definitely vouch for that). I can say that compared to other shadows, I do like the formulation. It's light, buttery, smooth, and pigmented. And for the price, you can't beat it.

If you like loose shadows, I highly recommend these! Each shadow retails for $3 and are available at eyeslipsface.com. The line has 27 different colors that includes mattes and shimmers. I'm not sure of an Elf retailer that sells these in store, but Elf consistently has deals and free shipping promo codes, so it's not too much to purchase them online if you're eager to try them out. I've ordered from the company before, and have been very happy with the online service.

Do you prefer loose or pressed shadows?
xoxo
